Arad Destroyed

21 When ^(A)the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in ^(B)the Negeb, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atharim, he fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.

¹⁶ And the descendants of the ^(A)Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah ^(B)from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near ^(C)Arad, ^(D)and they went and settled with the people.

⁴⁰ And ^(A)the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the Negeb in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the people of Israel.

¹⁴ the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one;

¹⁹ There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel except ^(A)the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took them all in battle. ²⁰ For it was the Lord's doing ^(B)to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be devoted to destruction and should receive no mercy but be destroyed, ^(C)just as the Lord commanded Moses.

⁵ and the men of Ai killed about thirty-six of their men and chased them before the gate as far as Shebarim and struck them at the descent. And the hearts of the people ^(A)melted and became as water.

³² Then ^(A)Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Jahaz.

⁴⁵ Then ^(A)the Amalekites and the Canaanites who lived in that hill country came down and defeated them and pursued them, even to ^(B)Hormah.

²¹ So they went up and spied out the land ^(A)from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, ^(B)near Lebo-hamath. ²² They went up into ^(C)the Negeb and came to ^(D)Hebron. ^(E)Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the ^(F)descendants of Anak, were there. (^(G)Hebron was built seven years before ^(H)Zoan in Egypt.)
