1 Profecía sobre Nínive. Libro de la visión de Nahúm de Elcos.
2 «Jehová es Dios celoso y vengador;
Jehová es vengador y está lleno de indignación;
se venga de sus adversarios
y se enoja con sus enemigos.
3 Jehová es tardo para la ira y grande en poder,
y no tendrá por inocente al culpable.
Jehová marcha sobre la tempestad y el torbellino,
y las nubes son el polvo de sus pies.
4 Amenaza al mar y lo seca,
y agota todos los ríos;
el Basán y el Carmelo languidecen,
y la flor del Líbano se marchita.
5 Ante él tiemblan los montes,
y los collados se derriten.
La tierra se conmueve en su presencia,
el mundo y todos los que en él habitan.
6 ¿Quién puede resistir su ira?
¿Quién quedará en pie
ante el ardor de su enojo?
Su ira se derrama como fuego
y ante él se quiebran las peñas.
7 Jehová es bueno,
fortaleza en el día de la angustia,
y conoce a los que en él confían.
8 Mas con inundación impetuosa
consumirá a sus adversarios,
y las tinieblas perseguirán a sus enemigos.
9 ¿Qué pensáis contra Jehová?
¡Él extermina por completo;
no tomará venganza dos veces de sus enemigos!
10 Aunque sean como espinos entretejidos
y estén empapados en su embriaguez,
serán consumidos como hojarasca completamente seca.
11 »De ti salió
el que tramó el mal contra Jehová,
un consejero perverso.
12 »Así ha dicho Jehová:
“Aunque tengan reposo y sean tantos,
aun así serán talados, y él pasará.
Bastante te he afligido;
no te afligiré más,
13 porque ahora quebraré el yugo que pesa sobre ti,
y romperé tus cadenas.”
14 »Pero acerca de ti mandará Jehová
que no quede ni memoria de tu nombre:
De la casa de tu dios destruiré
escultura y estatua de fundición;
allí pondré tu sepulcro,
porque fuiste vil.»
15 «¡Mirad! Sobre los montes
los pies del que trae buenas nuevas,
del que anuncia la paz.
Celebra, Judá, tus fiestas,
cumple tus votos,
porque nunca más te invadirá el malvado;
ha sido destruido del todo.

The Lord’s Anger Against Nineveh
2 The Lord is a jealous(D) and avenging God;
the Lord takes vengeance(E) and is filled with wrath.
The Lord takes vengeance on his foes
and vents his wrath against his enemies.(F)
3 The Lord is slow to anger(G) but great in power;
the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.(H)
His way is in the whirlwind(I) and the storm,(J)
and clouds(K) are the dust of his feet.
4 He rebukes(L) the sea and dries it up;(M)
he makes all the rivers run dry.
Bashan and Carmel(N) wither
and the blossoms of Lebanon fade.
5 The mountains quake(O) before him
and the hills melt away.(P)
The earth trembles(Q) at his presence,
the world and all who live in it.(R)
6 Who can withstand(S) his indignation?
Who can endure(T) his fierce anger?(U)
His wrath is poured out like fire;(V)
the rocks are shattered(W) before him.
7 The Lord is good,(X)
a refuge in times of trouble.(Y)
He cares for(Z) those who trust in him,(AA)
8 but with an overwhelming flood(AB)
he will make an end of Nineveh;
he will pursue his foes into the realm of darkness.
9 Whatever they plot(AC) against the Lord
he will bring[a] to an end;
trouble will not come a second time.
10 They will be entangled among thorns(AD)
and drunk(AE) from their wine;
they will be consumed like dry stubble.[b](AF)
11 From you, Nineveh, has one come forth
who plots evil against the Lord
and devises wicked plans.
12 This is what the Lord says:
“Although they have allies and are numerous,
they will be destroyed(AG) and pass away.
Although I have afflicted you, Judah,
I will afflict you no more.(AH)
13 Now I will break their yoke(AI) from your neck
and tear your shackles away.”(AJ)

2 God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth, and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
4 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.
5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
6 Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.
7 The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
9 What do ye imagine against the Lord? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.
10 For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.
11 There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the Lord, a wicked counsellor.
12 Thus saith the Lord; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.
13 For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
14 And the Lord hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.
15 Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.

the Lord is avenging and wrathful;

and (E)keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 (F)The Lord is slow to anger and (G)great in power,
and (H)the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
(I)His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
4 (J)He rebukes the sea and makes it dry;
he dries up all the rivers;

trouble will not rise up a second time.

11 From you came one
(AC)who plotted evil against the Lord,
a worthless counselor.
12 Thus says the Lord,
“Though they are at full strength and many,
(AD)they will be cut down and pass away.
(AE)Though I have afflicted you,
I will afflict you no more.
13 And now (AF)I will break his yoke from off you
and will burst your bonds apart.”
14 The Lord has given commandment about you:
(AG)“No more shall your name be perpetuated;
from (AH)the house of your gods I will cut off
the carved image and the metal image.
(AI)I will make your grave, (AJ)for you are vile.”
15 [b] (AK)Behold, upon the mountains, (AL)the feet of him
who brings good news,
who publishes peace!
(AM)Keep your feasts, O Judah;
(AN)fulfill your vows,
(AO)for never again shall the worthless pass through you;
he is utterly cut off.
