¹⁷ But you, when you fast, ^(A)anoint your head and wash your face,

³ Therefore wash yourself and ^(A)anoint yourself, put on your best garment and go down to the threshing floor; but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.

² In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. ³ I ate no ^[a]pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

²⁰ So David arose from the ground, washed and ^(A)anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the Lord and ^(B)worshiped. Then he went to his own house; and when he requested, they set food before him, and he ate.

² And Joab sent to ^(A)Tekoa and brought from there a wise woman, and said to her, “Please pretend to be a mourner, ^(B)and put on mourning apparel; do not anoint yourself with oil, but act like a woman who has been mourning a long time for the dead.
