^14 (C)“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵ But ^(D)if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Fasting to Be Seen Only by God

¹⁶ “Moreover, ^(E)when you fast, do not be like the ^[b]hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. ¹⁷ But you, when you fast, ^(F)anoint your head and wash your face, ¹⁸ so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you ^[c]openly.

Lay Up Treasures in Heaven^(G)

^19 (H)“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; ^20 (I)but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. ²¹ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The Lamp of the Body^(J)

^22 (K)“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is ^[d]good, your whole body will be full of light. ²³ But if your eye is ^[e]bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

You Cannot Serve God and Riches

^24 (L)“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. ^(M)You cannot serve God and ^[f]mammon.
