³⁷ But let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is ^[a]of ^(A)the evil one.

¹⁴ I have written to you, fathers, because you have known Him ^(A)who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are ^(B)strong, and the ^(C)word of God abides in you, and ^(D)you have overcome the evil one.

¹² not as ^(A)Cain, who was of ^(B)the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because ^(C)his deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous.

^18 (A)We know that ^(B)no one who has been ^[a]born of God sins; but He who was ^[b]begotten of God ^(C)keeps him, and ^(D)the evil one does not ^(E)touch him. ^19 (F)We know that ^(G)we are of God, and that ^(H)the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. ²⁰ And ^(I)we know that ^(J)the Son of God has come, and has ^(K)given us understanding so that we may know ^(L)Him who is true; and we ^(M)are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. ^(N)This is the true God and ^(O)eternal life.
