Jesus Is Mocked

²⁷^(A)Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the ^(B)governor's headquarters,^[a] and they gathered the whole ^(C)battalion^[b] before him. ²⁸And they stripped him and put ^(D)a scarlet robe on him, ²⁹and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they ^(E)mocked him, saying, “Hail, ^(F)King of the Jews!” ³⁰And ^(G)they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head.

¹⁶^(A)And the soldiers led him away inside ^(B)the palace (that is, ^(C)the governor's headquarters),^[a] and they called together the whole ^(D)battalion.^[b] ¹⁷And they clothed him in ^(E)a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. ¹⁸And they began to salute him, ^(F)“Hail, King of the Jews!” ¹⁹And they were striking his head with a reed and ^(G)spitting on him and ^(H)kneeling down in homage to him.
