³⁵ So all the righteous blood shed on the earth will be charged to you,^[a] from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah,^(A) son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.^(B)

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel^(A) to the blood of Zechariah,^(B) who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.

“Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible.^[a]

¹² unlike Cain,^(A) who was of the evil one^(B) and murdered^[a] his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil, and his brother’s were righteous. ¹³ Do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates^(C) you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death.^{(D) 15} Everyone who hates his brother^(E) is a murderer,^(F) and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.

¹¹ Woe to them! For they have traveled in the way of Cain,^(A) have abandoned themselves to the error of Balaam^(B) for profit, and have perished in Korah’s rebellion.^(C)
