³⁴ “^(A)Therefore, behold, ^(B)I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will ^(C)flog in your synagogues, and ^(D)persecute from city to city, ³⁵ so that upon you will fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous ^(E)Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the ^(F)son of Berechiah, whom ^(G)you murdered between the ^[a]temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon ^(H)this generation.

⁴⁹ For this reason also, ^(A)the wisdom of God said, ‘^(B)I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill, and some they will ^[a]persecute, ⁵⁰ so that the blood of all the prophets, shed ^(C)since the foundation of the world, may be charged ^[b]against this generation, ⁵¹ from ^(D)the blood of Abel to ^(E)the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be charged ^[c]against this generation.’
