Matthew 23:22-24
Disciples’ Literal New Testament
22 And the one having sworn by heaven is swearing by the throne of God and by the One sitting on it. 23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you are giving-a-tenth-of the mint and the dill and the cummin, and you neglected[a] the weightier things of the Law— the justice, and the mercy, and the faithfulness[b]. But you ought-to-have done these things, and not be neglecting those things. 24 Blind guides— the ones straining-out[c] the gnat, but swallowing[d] the camel!

- Matthew 23:23 That is, fidelity, being trustworthy. Or, faith.
- Matthew 23:24 Or, filtering.
- Matthew 23:24 Gnats and camels were both unclean under the Law of Moses. Jesus does not fault the Pharisees for their over-attention to micro-matters (they actually filtered the gnats out of their drinks), but for their under-attention to the big issues (they figuratively swallowed camels).
