⁴² Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:

¹⁰ Haven’t you read this Scripture:^(A)

²² saying,^(A) “The Son of Man^(B) must suffer many things^(C) and be rejected^(D) by the elders, chief priests, and scribes,^(E) be killed, and be raised the third day.”^(F)

²⁵ But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.^(A)

¹⁷ But He looked at them and said, “Then what is the meaning of this Scripture:^[a](A)

¹⁷ For you know that later, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected because he didn’t find any opportunity for repentance, though he sought it with tears.^(A)

⁴ Coming to Him, a living stone—rejected by men but chosen and valuable to God—

⁷ So honor will come to you who believe, but for the unbelieving,
