Restoring a Brother

¹⁵ “If your brother sins against you,^[a] go tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won your brother.^{(A) 16} But if he won’t listen, take one or two others with you, so that by the testimony^[b] of two or three witnesses every fact may be established.^{[c](B) 17} If he doesn’t pay attention to them, tell the church.^[d](C) If he doesn’t pay attention even to the church, let him be like a Gentile and a tax collector to you.^{(D) 18} Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will have been bound^[e] in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will have been loosed^[f] in heaven.^{(E) 19} Again, truly I tell you, if two of you on earth agree about any matter that you^[g] pray for, it will be done for you^[h] by my Father in heaven. ²⁰ For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.”

²³ Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? ²⁴ But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he told the paralyzed man, “I tell you: Get up, take your stretcher, and go home.”

²⁵ Immediately he got up before them, picked up what he had been lying on, and went home glorifying God.^{(A) 26} Then everyone was astounded, and they were giving glory to God. And they were filled with awe^(B) and said, “We have seen incredible things today.”

The Call of Levi

²⁷ After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax office,^(C) and he said to him, “Follow me.” ²⁸ So, leaving everything behind, he got up and began to follow him.

²⁹ Then Levi hosted a grand banquet for him at his house. Now there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others who were reclining at the table with them.^{(D) 30} But the Pharisees and their scribes^(E) were complaining to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

³¹ Jesus replied to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a doctor, but those who are sick. ³² I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
