Jesús, Señor del día de reposo
12 (A)Por aquel tiempo[a] Jesús pasó por entre los sembrados en el día de reposo; Sus discípulos tuvieron hambre, y empezaron a arrancar espigas(B) y a comer. 2 Cuando los fariseos lo vieron, dijeron: «Mira, Tus discípulos hacen lo que no es lícito hacer en el día de reposo(C)».
3 Pero Él les contestó: «¿No han leído lo que hizo David cuando él y sus compañeros tuvieron hambre, 4 cómo entró en la casa de Dios y comieron los panes consagrados(D), que no les era lícito comer, ni a él ni a los que estaban con él, sino solo a los sacerdotes? 5 ¿O no han leído en la ley, que en los días de reposo los sacerdotes en el templo profanan el día de reposo y están sin culpa? 6 Pues les digo que algo[b]mayor que el templo está aquí(E). 7 Pero si ustedes hubieran sabido lo que esto significa[c]: “Misericordia[d]quiero y no sacrificio(F)”, no hubieran condenado a los inocentes. 8 Porque el Hijo del Hombre(G)es Señor del día de reposo».
Jesús sana al hombre de la mano seca
9 (H)Pasando de allí, entró en la sinagoga de ellos. 10 Y allí estaba un hombre que tenía una mano seca. Y para poder acusar a Jesús, le preguntaron: «¿Es lícito sanar en el día de reposo(I)?».
11 Y Él les respondió: «¿Qué hombre habrá de ustedes que tenga una sola oveja, si esta se le cae en un hoyo en el día de reposo, no le echa mano y la saca(J)? 12 Pues, ¡cuánto más vale un hombre que una oveja(K)! Por tanto, es lícito hacer bien en el día de reposo».
13 Entonces Jesús dijo* al hombre: «Extiende tu mano». Y él la extendió, y le fue restaurada(L), sana como la otra. 14 Pero cuando los fariseos salieron, hicieron planes[e] contra Él, para ver cómo lo podrían destruir(M).
Jesús, el siervo escogido
15 Pero Jesús, sabiéndolo, se retiró de allí. Y muchos lo siguieron, y los sanó a todos(N). 16 Y les advirtió que no revelaran quién era Él[f](O); 17 para que se cumpliera lo que fue dicho por medio del profeta Isaías, cuando dijo:
18 «Este es Mi Siervo[g], a quien he escogido[h](P);
Mi Amado en quien se agrada[i] Mi Alma(Q);
Sobre Él pondré Mi Espíritu(R),
Y a las naciones[j] proclamará justicia[k].
19 -»No contenderá, ni gritará(S),
Ni habrá quien en las calles oiga Su voz.
20 -»No quebrará la caña cascada,
Ni apagará la mecha que humea(T),
Hasta que lleve[l] a la victoria la justicia[m].
21 -»Y en Su nombre las naciones[n] pondrán su esperanza(U)».
Jesús y Beelzebú
22 (V)Entonces trajeron a Jesús un endemoniado ciego y mudo(W), y lo sanó, de manera que el mudo hablaba y veía. 23 Todas las multitudes estaban asombradas, y decían: «¿Acaso no es este el Hijo de David(X)?». 24 Pero cuando los fariseos lo oyeron, dijeron: «Este no expulsa los demonios sino por Beelzebú, el príncipe de los demonios(Y)».
25 (Z)Conociendo Jesús sus pensamientos, les dijo(AA): «Todo reino dividido contra sí mismo es asolado, y toda ciudad o casa dividida contra sí misma no se mantendrá en pie. 26 Si Satanás expulsa a Satanás(AB), está[o]dividido contra sí mismo; ¿cómo puede entonces mantenerse en pie su reino? 27 Y si Yo expulso los demonios por Beelzebú(AC), ¿por quién los expulsan los hijos de ustedes(AD)? Por tanto, ellos serán sus jueces. 28 Pero si Yo expulso los demonios por el Espíritu de Dios, entonces el reino de Dios ha llegado a ustedes. 29 ¿O cómo puede alguien entrar en la casa de un hombre fuerte y saquear sus bienes, si primero no lo ata[p]? Y entonces saqueará su casa. 30 El que no está a favor Mío, está contra Mí; y el que no recoge a Mi lado, desparrama(AE).
31 »(AF) Por eso les digo, que todo pecado y blasfemia será perdonado a los hombres, pero la blasfemia contra el Espíritu no será perdonada. 32 Y a cualquiera que diga una palabra contra el Hijo del Hombre, se le perdonará; pero al que hable contra el Espíritu Santo, no se le perdonará ni en este siglo[q](AG)ni en el venidero.
33 »O hagan ustedes bueno el árbol y bueno su fruto, o hagan malo el árbol y malo su fruto; porque por el fruto se conoce el árbol(AH) . 34 ¡Camada de víboras(AI)! ¿Cómo pueden hablar cosas buenas siendo malos? Porque de la abundancia del corazón habla la boca(AJ). 35 El hombre bueno de su buen tesoro saca cosas buenas; y el hombre malo de su mal tesoro saca cosas malas(AK). 36 Pero Yo les digo que de toda palabra vana que hablen los hombres, darán cuenta de ella en el día del juicio(AL). 37 Porque por tus palabras serás justificado, y por tus palabras serás condenado».
Escribas y fariseos demandan señal
38 Entonces algunos de los escribas y fariseos dijeron a Jesús: «Maestro, queremos ver una señal[r] de parte Tuya(AM)».
39 Pero Él respondió: «(AN)Una generación perversa y adúltera demanda señal, y ninguna señal se le dará, sino la señal de Jonás el profeta; 40 porque como estuvo Jonás en el vientre del monstruo marino tres días y tres noches(AO), así estará el Hijo del Hombre(AP)tres días y tres noches en el corazón de la tierra(AQ). 41 Los hombres de Nínive(AR)se levantarán con esta generación en el juicio y la condenarán, porque ellos se arrepintieron con la predicación de Jonás(AS); y miren, algo más grande que Jonás está aquí(AT). 42 La Reina del Sur(AU)se levantará con esta generación en el juicio y la condenará, porque ella vino desde los confines de la tierra para oír la sabiduría de Salomón; y miren, algo más grande que Salomón está aquí(AV).
43 »(AW) Cuando el espíritu inmundo sale del hombre, pasa por lugares áridos buscando descanso y no lo halla. 44 Entonces dice: “Volveré a mi casa de donde salí”; y cuando llega, la encuentra desocupada, barrida y arreglada. 45 Entonces va, y toma consigo otros siete espíritus más depravados que él, y entrando, moran allí; y el estado final de aquel hombre resulta peor que el primero(AX). Así será también con esta generación perversa».
La madre y los hermanos de Jesús
46 (AY)Mientras Jesús aún estaba hablando a la multitud, Su madre(AZ) y Sus hermanos(BA) estaban afuera, deseando hablar con Él. 47 Y alguien le dijo: «Tu madre y Tus hermanos están afuera y te quieren hablar». 48 Pero Jesús respondió al que le informó: «¿Quién es Mi madre, y quiénes son Mis hermanos?».
49 Y extendiendo la mano hacia Sus discípulos, dijo: «¡Miren, aquí están Mi madre y Mis hermanos! 50 Porque cualquiera que hace la voluntad de Mi Padre que está en los cielos, ese es Mi hermano y Mi hermana y Mi madre».

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath(A)(B)
12 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain(C) and eat them. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”(D)
3 He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?(E) 4 He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests.(F) 5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath(G) and yet are innocent? 6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.(H) 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’[a](I) you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of Man(J) is Lord of the Sabbath.”
9 Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, 10 and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to bring charges against Jesus,(K) they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”(L)
11 He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?(M) 12 How much more valuable is a person than a sheep!(N) Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
13 Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.(O)
God’s Chosen Servant
15 Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. A large crowd followed him, and he healed all who were ill.(P) 16 He warned them not to tell others about him.(Q) 17 This was to fulfill(R) what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
18 “Here is my servant whom I have chosen,
the one I love, in whom I delight;(S)
I will put my Spirit on him,(T)
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
19 He will not quarrel or cry out;
no one will hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out,
till he has brought justice through to victory.
21 In his name the nations will put their hope.”[b](U)
Jesus and Beelzebul(V)
22 Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see.(W) 23 All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”(X)
24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul,(Y) the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.”(Z)
25 Jesus knew their thoughts(AA) and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan(AB) drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul,(AC) by whom do your people(AD) drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God(AE) has come upon you.
29 “Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house.
30 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.(AF) 31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.(AG) 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age(AH) or in the age to come.(AI)
33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.(AJ) 34 You brood of vipers,(AK) how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks(AL) what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”(AM)
The Sign of Jonah(AN)(AO)
38 Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign(AP) from you.”(AQ)
39 He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.(AR) 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish,(AS) so the Son of Man(AT) will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.(AU) 41 The men of Nineveh(AV) will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah,(AW) and now something greater than Jonah is here. 42 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came(AX) from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here.
43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.(AY) That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers(AZ)
46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother(BA) and brothers(BB) stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”
48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven(BC) is my brother and sister and mother.”

Healing on the Sabbath(J)
9 (K)Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue. 10 And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, (L)“Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—that they might accuse Him.
11 Then He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? 12 Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” 13 Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other. 14 Then (M)the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.
Behold, My Servant
15 But when Jesus knew it, (N)He withdrew from there. (O)And great [c]multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all. 16 Yet He (P)warned them not to make Him known, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
18 “Behold!(Q) My Servant whom I have chosen,
My Beloved (R)in whom My soul is well pleased!
I will put My Spirit upon Him,
And He will declare justice to the Gentiles.
19 He will not quarrel nor cry out,
Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed He will not break,
And smoking flax He will not quench,
Till He sends forth justice to victory;
21 And in His name Gentiles will trust.”
A House Divided Cannot Stand(S)
22 (T)Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the [d]blind and mute man both spoke and saw. 23 And all the multitudes were amazed and said, “Could this be the (U)Son of David?”
24 (V)Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by [e]Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”
25 But Jesus (W)knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. 28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, (X)surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 (Y)Or how can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. 30 He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.
The Unpardonable Sin(Z)
31 “Therefore I say to you, (AA)every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, (AB)but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 Anyone who (AC)speaks a word against the Son of Man, (AD)it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.
A Tree Known by Its Fruit(AE)
33 “Either make the tree good and (AF)its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 (AG)Brood[f] of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? (AH)For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure [g]of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
The Scribes and Pharisees Ask for a Sign(AI)
38 (AJ)Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.”
39 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and (AK)adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 (AL)For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 (AM)The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and (AN)condemn it, (AO)because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. 42 (AP)The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.
An Unclean Spirit Returns(AQ)
43 (AR)“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, (AS)he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44 Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; (AT)and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers Send for Him(AU)
46 While He was still talking to the multitudes, (AV)behold, His mother and (AW)brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him. 47 Then one said to Him, “Look, (AX)Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.”
48 But He answered and said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” 49 And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My (AY)brothers! 50 For (AZ)whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”
