The Lesson of the Withered Fig Tree(A)

20 (B)And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither away so soon?”

21 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, (C)if you have faith and (D)do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, (E)but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. 22 And (F)whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

Jesus’ Authority Questioned(G)

23 (H)Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and (I)said, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?”

21 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt,(A) not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for(B) in prayer.”

The Authority of Jesus Questioned(C)

23 Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. “By what authority(D) are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you this authority?”
