Let the Children Come to Me
13 (A)Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples (B)rebuked the people, 14 but Jesus said, (C)“Let the little children (D)come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” 15 And he laid his hands on them and went away.
The Rich Young Man
16 (E)And behold, a man came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to (F)have (G)eternal life?” 17 And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. (H)If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 He said to him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, (I)“You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19 Honor your father and mother, and, (J)You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 20 The young man said to him, (K)“All these I have kept. What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be (L)perfect, go, (M)sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have (N)treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 (O)When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, (P)only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 (Q)Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter (R)the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” 26 But Jesus (S)looked at them and said, (T)“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” 27 Then Peter said in reply, “See, (U)we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?” 28 Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world,[a] (V)when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me (W)will also sit on twelve thrones, (X)judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 (Y)And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold[b] and will (Z)inherit eternal life. 30 But (AA)many who are (AB)first will be last, and the last first.
Laborers in the Vineyard
20 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius[c] a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ 5 So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. 6 And (AC)about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ 7 They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’ 8 And (AD)when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his (AE)foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.’ 9 And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. 10 Now when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but each of them also received a denarius. 11 And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house, 12 saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and (AF)the scorching heat.’ 13 But he replied to one of them, (AG)‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take (AH)what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. 15 (AI)Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or (AJ)do you begrudge my generosity?’[d] 16 So (AK)the last will be first, and the first last.”

The Little Children and Jesus(A)
13 Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them(B) and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them.
14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs(C) to such as these.”(D) 15 When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.
The Rich and the Kingdom of God(E)
16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life(F)?”(G)
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”(H)
18 “Which ones?” he inquired.
Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery,(I) you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’[a](J) and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]”(K)
20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect,(L) go, sell your possessions and give to the poor,(M) and you will have treasure in heaven.(N) Then come, follow me.”
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich(O) to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”
26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”(P)
27 Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you!(Q) What then will there be for us?”
28 Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne,(R) you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.(S) 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[c] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.(T) 30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.(U)
The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard
20 “For the kingdom of heaven is like(V) a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.(W) 2 He agreed to pay them a denarius[d] for the day and sent them into his vineyard.
3 “About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4 He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ 5 So they went.
“He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. 6 About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’
7 “‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered.
“He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’
8 “When evening came,(X) the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’
9 “The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. 10 So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11 When they received it, they began to grumble(Y) against the landowner. 12 ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat(Z) of the day.’
13 “But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend.(AA) Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? 14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’(AB)
16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”(AC)

13 (A)And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples (B)rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, (C)“Let the children come to me; (D)do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15 (E)Truly, I say to you, whoever does not (F)receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” 16 And (G)he took them in his arms and blessed them, (H)laying his hands on them.

17 (I)And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and (J)knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to (K)inherit eternal life?” 18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: (L)‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” 20 And he said to him, “Teacher, (M)all these I have kept from my youth.” 21 And Jesus, (N)looking at him, (O)loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, (P)sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have (Q)treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 (R)Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus (S)looked around and said to his disciples, (T)“How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter (U)the kingdom of God!” 24 And the disciples (V)were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, (W)“Children, (X)how difficult it is[a] to enter (Y)the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter (Z)the kingdom of God.” 26 And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him,[b] “Then who can be saved?” 27 Jesus (AA)looked at them and said, (AB)“With man it is impossible, but not with God. 20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor,(I) and you will have treasure in heaven.(J) Then come, follow me.”(K)
22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich(L) to enter the kingdom of God!”
24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is[b] to enter the kingdom of God!(M) 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”(N)
26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?”
27 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”(O)
28 Then Peter spoke up, “We have left everything to follow you!”(P)
29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much(Q) in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come(R) eternal life.(S) 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”(T)
