યહૂદિ આગેવાનો દ્વારા ઈસુની કસોટી
(માર્ક 8:11-13; લૂ. 12:54-56)
16 ફરોશીઓ અને સદૂકીઓ ઈસુની કસોટી કરવા આવ્યા. તેઓએ તેને પૂછયું, જો તને દેવે મોકલ્યો છે તો અમને કોઈ પરાક્રમ કરી બતાવ.
2 ઈસુએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “સૂર્યાસ્ત સમયે તમે જાણો છો કે હવામાન કેવું થવાનું છે અને આકાશ રતૂમડું છે તો તમે કહેશો કે હવામાન સારું હશે. 3 અને સુર્યોદય સમયે આકાશ લાલ અને ઘેરાયેલું હોય તો તમે કહેશો કે આજે હવામાન તોફાની હશે. તમે આકાશના ચિન્હો સમાજી શકો છો ખરા, પણ વતૅમાન સમયના ચિન્હો તમે પારખી શકતા નથી. આજની દુષ્ટ અને વ્યભિચારી પ્રજા પરાક્રમોની એંધાણી માગે છે. 4 આજની દુષ્ટ અને અવિશ્વાસી પેઢી એંધાણીની રાહ જુએ છે પણ તેઓને યૂનાના ચિન્હ[a] સિવાય બીજુ કોઈ ચિન્હ અપાશે નહિ.” પછી ઈસુ તે જગ્યા છોડીને ચાલ્યો ગયો.

16 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.
2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
