¹⁵ said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has ^(A)seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water.

²⁴ So his fame spread throughout all ^(A)Syria, and ^(B)they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and ^(C)pains, ^(D)those oppressed by demons, ^(E)those having seizures, and ^(F)paralytics, and he healed them.

Jesus Heals an Official's Son

⁴⁶ So he came again to ^(A)Cana in Galilee, ^(B)where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. ⁴⁷ When this man heard that Jesus ^(C)had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.

³⁸ And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for ^(A)he is my only child. ³⁹ And behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out. It convulses him so that he foams at the mouth, and shatters him, and will hardly leave him. ⁴⁰ And I begged your disciples to cast it out, but ^(B)they could not.” ⁴¹ Jesus answered, “O ^(C)faithless and twisted generation, ^(D)how long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.” ⁴² While he was coming, the demon threw him to the ground and convulsed him. But Jesus ^(E)rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy, and ^(F)gave him back to his father.

²⁰ And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it ^(A)convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. ²¹ And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. ²² And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But ^(B)if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

¹⁷ And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has ^(A)a spirit that makes him mute. ¹⁸ And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and ^(B)they were not able.”

^22 (A)Then came one of ^(B)the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet ²³ and implored him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and ^(C)lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.”

⁴ for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. ⁵ Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones.

²² And behold, ^(A)a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, ^(B)“Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.”
