55 তখন প্রধান যাজকরা এবং মহাসভার সকলেই এমন একজন সাক্ষী খুঁজছিলেন যার কথার জোরে যীশুকে মৃত্যুদণ্ডে দণ্ডিত করা যায়; কিন্তু তেমন সাক্ষ্য তাঁরা পেলেন না। 56 কারণ অনেকে তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে মিথ্যা সাক্ষী দিল বটে কিন্তু তাদের সাক্ষ্য মিলল না।
57 তখন কিছু লোক তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে মিথ্যা সাক্ষী দিয়ে বলল, 58 “আমরা তাঁকে বলতে শুনেছি, ‘মানুষের হাতে তৈরী এই মন্দিরটি ভেঙে ফেলব এবং তিন দিনের মধ্যে মানুষের হাত দিয়ে তৈরী নয় এমনই একটি মন্দির আমি গড়ে তুলব।’” 59 কিন্তু এতেও তাদের সাক্ষ্যের প্রমাণ মিলল না।
60 তখন মহাযাজক সকলের সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে যীশুকে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, “তুমি কি কিছুই উত্তর দেবে না? এই সমস্ত লোকরা তোমার বিরুদ্ধে কি সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছে?” 61 কিন্তু তিনি চুপচাপ থাকলেন, কোন উত্তর দিলেন না।
আবার মহাযাজক তাঁকে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, “তুমি কি সেই পরম খ্রীষ্ট পরম ধন্য, ঈশ্বরের পুত্র?”
62 যীশু বললেন, “হ্যাঁ, আমিই ঈশ্বরের পুত্র। তোমরা একদিন মানবপুত্রকে ঈশ্বরের ডানপাশে বসে থাকতে আকাশের মেঘে আবৃত হয়ে আসতে দেখবে।”[a]
63 তখন মহাযাজক তাঁর পোশাক ছিঁড়ে বললেন, “আমাদের সাক্ষীর আর কি প্রয়োজন? 64 তোমরা তো ঈশ্বর নিন্দা শুনলে। তোমাদের কি মনে হয়?” তারা সকলে তাঁকে দোষী স্থির করে বলল, “এঁর মৃত্যুদণ্ড হওয়া উচিত।”

55 (A)Now the chief priests and all the council sought testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none. 56 For many bore (B)false witness against Him, but their testimonies [a]did not agree.
57 Then some rose up and bore false witness against Him, saying, 58 “We heard Him say, (C)‘I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.’ ” 59 But not even then did their testimony agree.
60 (D)And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, saying, “Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?” 61 But (E)He kept silent and answered nothing.
(F)Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?”
62 Jesus said, “I am. (G)And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
63 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? 64 You have heard the (H)blasphemy! What do you think?”
And they all condemned Him to be deserving of (I)death.

55 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin(A) were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any. 56 Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.
57 Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands and in three days will build another,(B) not made with hands.’” 59 Yet even then their testimony did not agree.
60 Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 61 But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.(C)
Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”(D)
62 “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”(E)
63 The high priest tore his clothes.(F) “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. 64 “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?”
They all condemned him as worthy of death.(G)
