Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection^(A)

³¹ And ^(B)He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be ^(C)rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be ^(D)killed, and after three days rise again. ³² He spoke this word openly. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.

^9 (A)Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead. ¹⁰ So they kept this word to themselves, questioning ^(B)what the rising from the dead meant.

Gamaliel’s Advice

³³ When they heard this, they were ^(A)furious^[a] and plotted to kill them. ³⁴ Then one in the council stood up, a Pharisee named ^(B)Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in respect by all the people, and commanded them to put the apostles outside for a little while. ³⁵ And he said to them: “Men of Israel, ^[b]take heed to yourselves what you intend to do regarding these men. ³⁶ For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody. A number of men, about four hundred, ^[c]joined him. He was slain, and all who obeyed him were scattered and came to nothing. ³⁷ After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census, and drew away many people after him. He also perished, and all who obeyed him were dispersed.

²² “If a man has committed a sin ^(A)deserving of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, ^23 (B)his body shall not remain overnight on the tree, but you shall surely bury him that day, so that ^(C)you do not defile the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance; for ^(D)he who is hanged is accursed of God.
