⁵² because they had not understood about the loaves. Instead, their hearts were hardened.^(A)

⁵⁰ But they did not understand what he said to them.^(A)

³⁴ They understood none of these things.^(A) The meaning of the saying^[a](B) was hidden^(C) from them, and they did not grasp what was said.

²⁵ He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow^[a] to believe all that the prophets have spoken!^(A)

⁶ Jesus gave them this figure of speech, but they did not understand^(A) what he was telling them.

¹⁶ His disciples did not understand these things at first. However, when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him^(A) and that they had done these things to him.

¹⁷ Then some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this he’s telling us: ‘In a little while, you will not see me; again in a little while, you will see me,’ and, ‘Because I am going to the Father’^(A)?” ¹⁸ They said, “What is this he is saying,^[a] ‘In a little while’? We don’t know what he’s talking about.”

¹⁹ Jesus knew they wanted to ask him, and so he said to them, “Are you asking one another about what I said, ‘In a little while, you will not see me; again in a little while, you will see me’?
