¹⁷ But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.

³³ “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.^(A) In this world you will have trouble.^(B) But take heart! I have overcome^(C) the world.”

³ Not only so, but we^[a] also glory in our sufferings,^(A) because we know that suffering produces perseverance;^(B)

⁴ who comforts us^(A) in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

¹⁷ For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.^(A)
