^3 (A)And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. ⁴ And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, ^(B)they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. ⁵ And when Jesus ^(C)saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, ^(D)your sins are forgiven.” ⁶ Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, ⁷ “Why does this man speak like that? ^(E)He is blaspheming! ^(F)Who can forgive sins but God alone?” ⁸ And immediately Jesus, ^(G)perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts? ⁹ Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’? ¹⁰ But that you may know that ^(H)the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic— ¹¹ “I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.” ¹² And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and ^(I)glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”

^18 (A)And behold, some men were bringing ^(B)on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus, ¹⁹ but finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on ^(C)the roof and let him down with his bed ^(D)through the tiles into the midst before Jesus. ²⁰ And ^(E)when he saw their faith, he said, “Man, ^(F)your sins are forgiven you.” ²¹ And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, “Who is this who speaks ^(G)blasphemies? ^(H)Who can forgive sins but God alone?” ²² When Jesus ^(I)perceived their thoughts, he answered them, “Why do you question in your hearts? ²³ Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? ²⁴ But that you may know that ^(J)the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the man who was paralyzed—“I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home.” ²⁵ And immediately he rose up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went home, ^(K)glorifying God. ²⁶ And amazement seized them all, and they ^(L)glorified God and were filled ^(M)with awe, saying, “We have seen extraordinary things today.”
