⁵⁵ Inside, the chief priests and the whole Jewish Supreme Court were trying to find something against Jesus that would be sufficient to condemn him to death. But their efforts were in vain. ⁵⁶ Many false witnesses volunteered, but they contradicted each other.

⁵⁷ Finally some men stood up to lie about him and said,
