²¹ And if anyone says to you at that time, ‘Look! Here is the Messiah!’^[a] or ‘Look! There he is!’—do not believe it.^(A)

⁸ And he said, “Beware that you are not led astray, for many will come in my name and say, ‘I am he!’^[a] and, ‘The time is near!’^[b] Do not go after them.^(A)

²³ Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look! Here is the Messiah!’^[a] or ‘There he is!’—do not believe it.^{(A) 24} For false messiahs^[b] and false prophets will appear and produce great signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.^{(B) 25} Take note, I have told you beforehand.

⁵ For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah!’^[a] and they will lead many astray.

²³ They will say to you, ‘Look there!’ or ‘Look here!’ Do not go; do not set off in pursuit.^{(A) 24} For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day.^[a](B)

13 ^[a]“If prophets or those who divine by dreams appear among you and show you omens or portents,^{(A) 2} and the omens or the portents declared by them take place, and they say, ‘Let us follow other gods’ (whom you have not known) ‘and let us serve them,’^{(B) 3} you must not heed the words of those prophets or those who divine by dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you indeed love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul.^(C)

⁴³ I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; if another comes in his own name, you will accept him.
