The Baptism of Jesus

⁹ In^(A) those days Jesus came from Nazareth^(B) in Galilee^(C) and was baptized in the Jordan by John. ¹⁰ As soon as he came up out of the water, he saw the heavens^(D) being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. ¹¹ And a voice^(E) came from heaven:^(F) “You are my beloved^(G) Son;^(H) with you I am well-pleased.”^(I)

²¹ When all the people were baptized,^(A) Jesus also was baptized. As he was praying,^(B) heaven opened,^{(C) 22} and the Holy Spirit descended on him in a physical appearance like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well-pleased.”^(D)

³¹ I didn’t know him,^(A) but I came baptizing with water so that he might be revealed^(B) to Israel.” ³² And John testified, “I saw the Spirit^(C) descending from heaven like a dove, and he rested on him.^{(D) 33} I didn’t know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The one you see the Spirit descending and resting on—he is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’^{(E) 34} I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”^[a](F)
