The Baptism and Testing of Jesus^(A)(B)

⁹ At that time Jesus came from Nazareth^(C) in Galilee and was baptized by John^(D) in the Jordan.

A Prophet Without Honor^(A)

6 Jesus left there and went to his hometown,^(B) accompanied by his disciples.

²⁴ “What do you want with us,^(A) Jesus of Nazareth?^(B) Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”^(C)

The Birth of Jesus Foretold

²⁶ In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel^(A) to Nazareth,^(B) a town in Galilee,

³⁹ When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.^(A)

⁵¹ Then he went down to Nazareth with them^(A) and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.^(B)

¹⁶ He went to Nazareth,^(A) where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue,^(B) as was his custom. He stood up to read,^(C)

²³ Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown^(A) what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’”^(B)

⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael^(A) and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law,^(B) and about whom the prophets also wrote^(C)—Jesus of Nazareth,^(D) the son of Joseph.”^(E)
