2 ‘I have loved you,’(A) says the Lord.
Yet you ask, ‘How have you loved us? ’
‘Wasn’t Esau Jacob’s brother? ’(B) This is the Lord’s declaration. ‘Even so, I loved Jacob, 3 but I hated Esau.(C) I turned his mountains into a wasteland, and gave his inheritance to the desert jackals.’(D)

“Yet you say, ‘In what way have You loved us?’
Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?”
Says the Lord.
“Yet (B)Jacob I have loved;
3 But Esau I have hated,
And (C)laid waste his mountains and his heritage
For the jackals of the wilderness.”
