Bài Giảng Trên Núi(A)

5 Thấy đám đông, Đức Giê-su đi lên núi. Khi Ngài đã ngồi xuống, các môn đệ đến gần, 2 Ngài cất tiếng dạy dỗ họ:[a]

3 “Phước cho người nghèo khổ trong tâm linh,
    Vì Nước Thiên Đàng thuộc về họ.
4 Phước cho người than khóc,
    Vì sẽ được an ủi.
5 Phước cho người khiêm nhu,
    Vì sẽ được thừa hưởng đất.
6 Phước cho người đói khát sự công chính,
    Vì sẽ được no đủ.
7 Phước cho người đầy lòng thương,
    Vì sẽ được thương xót.
8 Phước cho người có lòng trong sạch,
    Vì sẽ thấy Đức Chúa Trời.
9 Phước cho người hòa giải,
    Vì sẽ được gọi là con cái Đức Chúa Trời.
10 Phước cho người vì sự công chính mà bị bắt bớ,
    Vì Nước Thiên Đàng thuộc về họ.

11 Phước cho các con khi bị người ta mắng nhiếc, ngược đãi và vu cáo đủ điều ác vì cớ Ta. 12 Hãy hân hoan, mừng rỡ, các con sẽ được trọng thưởng ở trên trời vì người ta cũng đã bắt bớ các tiên tri của Chúa trước các con như thế.”

Muối Và Ánh Sáng(B)

13 “Các con là muối của đất, nhưng nếu muối mất chất mặn đi, thì lấy gì làm cho mặn lại? Muối ấy thành vô ích, phải bỏ đi và bị người ta giẫm dưới chân.

14 Các con là ánh sáng của thế gian. Một thành xây trên ngọn đồi sẽ không bị che khuất. 15 Không ai thắp đèn rồi đặt trong[b] thùng nhưng đặt trên chân đèn để soi sáng mọi người trong nhà. 16 Vậy, hãy chiếu ánh sáng của các con trước mặt thiên hạ như thế, để họ thấy các công việc tốt đẹp của các con mà tôn vinh Cha các con ở trên trời.”[c]

Dạy Về Kinh Luật

17 “Đừng nghĩ rằng Ta đến để hủy bỏ Kinh Luật và Kinh Tiên Tri; Ta đến không phải để hủy bỏ mà để hoàn thành. 18 Vì thật, Ta bảo các con: Cho đến khi trời đất qua đi thì một chấm, một nét trong Kinh Luật cũng không qua đi[d] cho đến chừng tất cả được thành tựu. 19 Vì thế nếu ai hủy bỏ một điều nhỏ nhất trong các điều răn này và dạy người ta làm như thế, người ấy sẽ là[e] nhỏ nhất trong Nước Thiên Đàng. Nhưng hễ ai làm theo những điều răn ấy và dạy người khác làm nữa, sẽ được kể là lớn trong Nước Thiên Đàng. 20 Vì Ta nói cho các con biết: Nếu sự công chính của các con không hơn sự công chính của các giáo sư Kinh Luật và người Pha-ri-si, thì các con không thể vào Nước Thiên Đàng được.”

Sự Giận Dữ

21 “Các con nghe lời dạy cho người xưa rằng: ‘Chớ giết người.[f] Ai giết người sẽ bị trừng phạt.’ 22 Nhưng Ta bảo các con: ‘Ai giận anh em mình, người ấy đáng bị trừng phạt. Ai mắng anh em mình là ngu xuẩn,[g] người ấy đáng bị đưa ra tòa.[h] Ai mắng anh em mình là điên khùng người ấy đáng bị ném vào lửa hỏa ngục.’

23 Cho nên khi con dâng lễ vật trên bàn thờ mà nhớ lại rằng một anh em con có điều gì bất bình cùng con, 24 hãy để lễ vật ở trước bàn thờ, đi giải hòa cùng anh em mình trước đã, rồi hãy trở lại dâng lễ vật.

25 Hãy sớm thỏa thuận với người kiện cáo mình ngay khi còn trên đường đi với họ, kẻo kẻ đối nghịch nộp con trước tòa, quan tòa trao cho người dưới quyền tống giam con. 26 Thật, Ta bảo con, con không ra khỏi ngục cho đến khi trả hết đồng bạc cuối cùng.”

Vấn Đề Ngoại Tình

27 “Các con đã nghe lời dạy rằng: ‘Chớ ngoại tình.’[i] 28 Còn Ta dạy các con rằng: ‘Hễ ai nhìn đàn bà với lòng tham muốn người ấy đã ngoại tình trong lòng rồi. 29 Nếu con mắt bên phải gây cho con phạm tội, hãy móc mắt ấy ném xa khỏi con, vì thà một phần thân thể bị hủy hoại hơn là cả thân thể bị ném xuống hỏa ngục. 30 Nếu tay phải gây cho con phạm tội, hãy chặt bỏ đi, vì thà một phần thân thể bị hủy hoại còn hơn là toàn thân đi vào hỏa ngục.’ ”

Vấn Đề Ly Dị(C)

31 “Cũng có lời dạy: ‘Ai muốn bỏ vợ hãy cho nàng một giấy ly dị.’[j] 32 Nhưng Ta bảo các con: Ngoại trừ trường hợp gian dâm, ai bỏ vợ là làm cho nàng trở nên người ngoại tình; còn ai cưới người bị ly dị, thì cũng phạm tội ngoại tình.”

Sự Thề Nguyện

33 “Các con cũng nghe lời dạy cho người xưa rằng: ‘Đừng bội lời thề, nhưng hãy hoàn thành lời hứa nguyện của con với Chúa.’ 34 Nhưng Ta bảo các con: ‘Đừng thề gì cả. Đừng chỉ trời mà thề, vì là ngai của Đức Chúa Trời. 35 Đừng chỉ đất mà thề, vì là bệ chân của Ngài. Đừng chỉ Giê-ru-sa-lem mà thề, vì là kinh thành của Vua lớn. 36 Đừng chỉ đầu[k] con mà thề, vì con không thể làm cho một sợi tóc thành trắng hay đen được. 37 Nhưng phải thì nói phải, không thì nói không, thêm bớt[l] bất cứ điều gì đều từ quỷ mà đến.’ ”

Sự Trả Thù(D)

38 “Các con nghe lời dạy rằng: ‘Mắt đền mắt, răng đền răng.’[m] 39 Nhưng Ta bảo các con: ‘Đừng chống cự kẻ ác. Nếu ai vả má bên phải, hãy đưa luôn má bên kia cho họ. 40 Nếu ai muốn kiện con để lấy áo trong, hãy để họ lấy luôn áo ngoài. 41 Nếu ai bắt con đi một dặm, hãy đi với họ hai dặm. 42 Ai xin hãy cho; ai muốn mượn gì, đừng từ chối.’ ”

Yêu Kẻ Thù(E)

43 “Các con có nghe lời dạy: ‘Hãy thương người láng giềng[n] và ghét kẻ thù địch.’ 44 Nhưng Ta bảo các con: ‘Hãy yêu kẻ thù và cầu nguyện cho kẻ bắt bớ các con, 45 để các con trở nên con cái của Cha các con trên trời, vì Ngài cho mặt trời soi trên kẻ ác cũng như người thiện và ban mưa cho người công chính cũng như kẻ bất chính. 46 Nếu các con chỉ thương người thương mình, các con có gì đáng thưởng đâu. Ngay cả người thu thuế cũng chẳng làm như thế sao? 47 Nếu các con chỉ chào đón anh em mình mà thôi, thì có gì hơn ai đâu, những người ngoại đạo cũng chẳng làm như thế sao? 48 Thế thì, các con hãy toàn hảo, như Cha các con ở trên trời là Đấng toàn hảo.’ ”

Introduction to the Sermon on the Mount

5 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them.

The Beatitudes(A)

He said:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.(B)
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.(C)
5 Blessed are the meek,
    for they will inherit the earth.(D)
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.(E)
7 Blessed are the merciful,
    for they will be shown mercy.(F)
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,(G)
    for they will see God.(H)
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,(I)
    for they will be called children of God.(J)
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,(K)
    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.(L)

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you,(M) persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.(N) 12 Rejoice and be glad,(O) because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.(P)

Salt and Light

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.(Q)

14 “You are the light of the world.(R) A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.(S) 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others,(T) that they may see your good deeds(U) and glorify(V) your Father in heaven.

The Fulfillment of the Law

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.(W) 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.(X) 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands(Y) and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.(Z)

Murder(AA)

21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder,[a](AB) and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry(AC) with a brother or sister[b][c] will be subject to judgment.(AD) Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’[d] is answerable to the court.(AE) And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.(AF)

23 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.

25 “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. 26 Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.

Adultery

27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’[e](AG) 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.(AH) 29 If your right eye causes you to stumble,(AI) gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble,(AJ) cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

Divorce

31 “It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’[f](AK) 32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.(AL)

Oaths

33 “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath,(AM) but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’(AN) 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all:(AO) either by heaven, for it is God’s throne;(AP) 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.(AQ) 36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’;(AR) anything beyond this comes from the evil one.[g](AS)

Eye for Eye

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’[h](AT) 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.(AU) 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.(AV)

Love for Enemies

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[i](AW) and hate your enemy.’(AX) 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,(AY) 45 that you may be children(AZ) of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.(BA) 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?(BB) Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.(BC)

Believers Are Salt and Light(R)

13 “You are the salt of the earth; (S)but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

14 (T)“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they (U)light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, (V)that they may see your good works and (W)glorify your Father in heaven.

Christ Fulfills the Law

17 (X)“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, (Y)till heaven and earth pass away, one [b]jot or one [c]tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 (Z)Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds (AA)the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

Murder Begins in the Heart(AB)

21 “You have heard that it was said to those [d]of old, (AC)‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that (AD)whoever is angry with his brother [e]without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, (AE)‘Raca!’[f] shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, [g]‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of [h]hell fire. 23 Therefore (AF)if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 (AG)leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 (AH)Agree with your adversary quickly, (AI)while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. 26 Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.

Adultery in the Heart

27 “You have heard that it was said [i]to those of old, (AJ)‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that whoever (AK)looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 (AL)If your right eye causes you to [j]sin, (AM)pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to [k]sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

Marriage Is Sacred and Binding(AN)

31 “Furthermore it has been said, (AO)‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ 32 But I say to you that (AP)whoever divorces his wife for any reason except [l]sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.

Jesus Forbids Oaths

33 “Again you have heard that (AQ)it was said to those of [m]old, (AR)‘You shall not swear falsely, but (AS)shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’ 34 But I say to you, (AT)do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is (AU)God’s throne; 35 nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of (AV)the great King. 36 Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 (AW)But let [n]your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.

Go the Second Mile(AX)

38 “You have heard that it was said, (AY)‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 (AZ)But I tell you not to resist an evil person. (BA)But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41 And whoever (BB)compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to him who asks you, and (BC)from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.

Love Your Enemies(BD)

43 “You have heard that it was said, (BE)‘You shall love your neighbor (BF)and hate your enemy.’ 44 [o]But I say to you, (BG)love your enemies, bless those who curse you, (BH)do good to those who hate you, and pray (BI)for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for (BJ)He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 (BK)For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your [p]brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the [q]tax collectors do so? 48 (BL)Therefore you shall be perfect, just (BM)as your Father in heaven is perfect.
