⁵ “for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue.”

¹¹ Then Hiram king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon:

^12 [a]Hiram also said:

Obedience by Faith

5 Whoever believes that ^(A)Jesus is the Christ is ^(B)born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. ² By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and ^(C)keep His commandments. ^3 (D)For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And ^(E)His commandments are not burdensome.

¹⁸ My little children, ^(A)let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ And by this we ^[a]know ^(B)that we are of the truth, and shall ^[b]assure our hearts before Him.

¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love ^[a]his brother abides in death.

⁶ For ^(A)in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but ^(B)faith working through love.

^27 (A)Blessed^[a] be the Lord God of our fathers, ^(B)who has put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to beautify the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem, ²⁸ and ^(C)has extended mercy to me before the king and his counselors, and before all the king’s mighty princes.

So I was encouraged, as ^(D)the hand of the Lord my God was upon me; and I gathered leading men of Israel to go up with me.

³ Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, my own special treasure of gold and silver: ⁴ three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of ^(A)Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses; ⁵ the gold for things of gold and the silver for things of silver, and for all kinds of work to be done by the hands of craftsmen. Who then is ^(B)willing to ^[a]consecrate himself this day to the Lord?”

⁶ Then ^(C)the leaders of the fathers’ houses, leaders of the tribes of Israel, the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with ^(D)the officers over the king’s work, ^(E)offered willingly. ⁷ They gave for the work of the house of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron. ⁸ And whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the Lord, into the hand of ^(F)Jehiel^[b] the Gershonite. ⁹ Then the people rejoiced, for they had offered willingly, because with a loyal heart they had ^(G)offered willingly to the Lord; and King David also rejoiced greatly.

Solomon Prepares to Build the Temple^(A)

5 Now ^(B)Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, because he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father, ^(C)for Hiram had always loved David.
