⁹ Then Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one thing: ^(A)Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or ^[a]to destroy?”

³ And Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, ^(A)“Is it lawful to heal on the ^[a]Sabbath?”

⁴ Then He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent.

¹² Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” ¹³ Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other.

^19 (A)Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? ^(B)Why do you seek to kill Me?”

²⁰ The people answered and said, ^(C)“You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill You?”

²¹ Jesus answered and said to them, “I did one work, and you all marvel. ^22 (D)Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, ^(E)but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. ²³ If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because ^(F)I made a man completely well on the Sabbath?

^56 [a]For ^(A)the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went to another village.
