² for 40 days to be tempted by the Devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were over,^[a] He was hungry. ³ The Devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”

⁴ But Jesus answered him, “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone.”^[b](A)[c]
