29 (A)When He approached Bethphage and (B)Bethany, near the [a]mount that is called (C)Olivet, He sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a colt tied on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of it.’” 32 So those who were sent went away and found it just as He had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its [b]owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 They said, “The Lord has need of it.” 35 They brought it to Jesus, (D)and they threw their coats on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 As He was going, they were spreading their coats on the road. 37 As soon as He was approaching, near the descent of (E)the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to (F)praise God [c]joyfully with a loud voice for all the [d]miracles which they had seen, 38 shouting:

(G)Blessed is the (H)King who comes in the name of the Lord;
Peace in heaven and (I)glory in the highest!”

39 (J)Some of the Pharisees [e]in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” 40 But Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these become silent, (K)the stones will cry out!”

41 When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and (L)wept over it, 42 saying, “If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you [f]when your enemies will (M)throw up a [g]barricade against you, and (N)surround you and hem you in on every side, 44 and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and (O)they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize (P)the time of your visitation.”

The Triumphal Entry

11 (A)As they *approached Jerusalem, at Bethphage and (B)Bethany, near (C)the Mount of Olives, He *sent two of His disciples, and *said to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ you say, ‘The Lord has need of it’; and immediately he [a]will send it back here.” They went away and found a colt tied at the door, outside in the street; and they *untied it. Some of the bystanders were saying to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” They spoke to them just as Jesus had told them, and they gave them permission. (D)They *brought the colt to Jesus and put their coats on it; and He sat on it. And many spread their coats in the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields. Those who went in front and those who followed were shouting:

“Hosanna!
(E)Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;
10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David;
Hosanna (F)in the highest!”

11 (G)Jesus entered Jerusalem and came into the temple; and after looking around at everything, (H)He left for Bethany with the twelve, since it was already late.

Jesus Enters Jerusalem

12 On the next day (A)the large crowd who had come to (B)the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “(C)Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the (D)King of Israel.” 14 Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written, 15 (E)Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” 16 (F)These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus (G)was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things to Him. 17 So (H)the [a]people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him. 18 (I)For this reason also the [b]people went and met Him, (J)because they heard that He had performed this [c]sign. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are not doing any good; look, the world has gone after Him.”

Greeks Seek Jesus

20 Now there were some (K)Greeks among those who were going up to worship at (L)the feast; 21 these then came to (M)Philip, who was from (N)Bethsaida of Galilee, and began to ask him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22 Philip *came and *told (O)Andrew; Andrew and Philip *came and *told Jesus. 23 And Jesus *answered them, saying, (P)The hour has come for the Son of Man to (Q)be glorified. 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, (R)unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 (S)He who loves his [d]life loses it, and he who (T)hates his [e]life in this world will keep it to life eternal. 26 If anyone [f]serves Me, he must follow Me; and (U)where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone [g]serves Me, the Father will (V)honor him.

Jesus Foretells His Death

27 (W)Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘(X)Father, save Me from (Y)this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 (Z)Father, glorify Your name.” Then a (AA)voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” 29 So the crowd of people who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered; others were saying, “(AB)An angel has spoken to Him.” 30 Jesus answered and said, (AC)This voice has not come for My sake, but for your sakes. 31 (AD)Now judgment is upon this world; now (AE)the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, if I (AF)am lifted up from the earth, will (AG)draw all men to Myself.” 33 But He was saying this (AH)to indicate the kind of death by which He was to die. 34 The crowd then answered Him, “We have heard out of (AI)the Law that [h](AJ)the Christ is to remain forever; and how can You say, ‘The (AK)Son of Man must be (AL)lifted up’? Who is this (AM)Son of Man?” 35 So Jesus said to them, (AN)For a little while longer (AO)the Light is among you. (AP)Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who (AQ)walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. 36 While you have the Light, (AR)believe in the Light, so that you may become (AS)sons of Light.”

These things Jesus spoke, and He went away and [i](AT)hid Himself from them. 37 But though He had performed so many [j]signs before them, yet they were not believing in Him. 38 This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet which he spoke: “(AU)Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” 39 For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again, 40 (AV)He has blinded their eyes and He (AW)hardened their heart, so that they would not see with their eyes and perceive with their heart, and [k]be converted and I heal them.” 41 These things Isaiah said because (AX)he saw His glory, and (AY)he spoke of Him. 42 Nevertheless (AZ)many even of (BA)the rulers believed in Him, but (BB)because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, for fear that they would be [l](BC)put out of the synagogue; 43 (BD)for they loved the [m]approval of men rather than the [n]approval of God.

44 And Jesus cried out and said, (BE)He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45 (BF)He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me. 46 (BG)I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness. 47 If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for (BH)I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 (BI)He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; (BJ)the word I spoke is what will judge him at (BK)the last day. 49 (BL)For I did not speak [o]on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me (BM)has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. 50 I know that (BN)His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak (BO)just as the Father has told Me.”
