²⁴ For the Son of Man in his day^[a] will be like the lightning,^(A) which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. ²⁵ But first he must suffer many things^(B) and be rejected^(C) by this generation.^(D)

²⁵ He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! ²⁶ Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”^(A)
