⁵¹ Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.

Not Peace but Division^(A)

⁴⁹ “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!

¹⁴ Then I broke my second staff called Union, breaking the family bond between Judah and Israel.

¹⁰ Then I took my staff called Favor^(A) and broke it, revoking^(B) the covenant I had made with all the nations. ¹¹ It was revoked on that day, and so the oppressed of the flock who were watching me knew it was the word of the Lord.

⁷ Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.^(A) There will be famines^(B) and earthquakes in various places. ⁸ All these are the beginning of birth pains.

⁹ “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted^(C) and put to death,^(D) and you will be hated by all nations because of me.^{(E) 10} At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other,

⁷ So I shepherded the flock marked for slaughter,^(A) particularly the oppressed of the flock. Then I took two staffs and called one Favor and the other Union, and I shepherded the flock. ⁸ In one month I got rid of the three shepherds.

The flock detested^(B) me, and I grew weary of them
