The Grain Offering

2 “When anyone presents a grain offering(A) as a gift to the Lord, his gift must consist of fine flour.[a](B) He is to pour olive oil(C) on it, put frankincense on it,[b](D) 2 and bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests. The priest will take a handful of fine flour and oil from it, along with all its frankincense, and will burn this memorial portion(E) of it on the altar, a fire offering of a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 3 But the rest of the grain offering will belong to Aaron and his sons; it is the holiest part(F) of the fire offerings to the Lord.

4 “When you present a grain offering baked in an oven, it must be made of fine flour, either unleavened cakes(G) mixed with oil or unleavened wafers(H) coated with oil. 5 If your gift is a grain offering prepared on a griddle,(I) it must be unleavened bread(J) made of fine flour mixed with oil. 6 Break it into pieces and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. 7 If your gift is a grain offering prepared in a pan,(K) it must be made of fine flour with oil. 8 When you bring[c] to the Lord the grain offering made in any of these ways, it is to be presented to the priest, and he will take it to the altar. 9 The priest will remove the memorial portion[d] from the grain offering and burn it on the altar, a fire offering of a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 10 But the rest of the grain offering will belong to Aaron and his sons;(L) it is the holiest part of the fire offerings to the Lord.

11 “No grain offering that you present to the Lord is to be made with yeast, for you are not to burn[e] any yeast(M) or honey(N) as a fire offering to the Lord. 12 You may present them to the Lord as an offering of firstfruits,(O) but they are not to be offered on the altar as a pleasing aroma. 13 You are to season each of your grain offerings with salt; you must not omit from your grain offering the salt of the covenant(P) with your God. You are to present salt[f] with each of your offerings.

14 “If you present a grain offering of firstfruits to the Lord, you must present fresh heads of grain, crushed kernels, roasted on the fire, for your grain offering of firstfruits. 15 You are to put oil and frankincense on it; it is a grain offering. 16 The priest will then burn some of its crushed kernels and oil with all its frankincense as a fire offering to the Lord.

The Grain Offering

2 “‘When anyone brings a grain offering(A) to the Lord, their offering is to be of the finest flour.(B) They are to pour olive oil(C) on it,(D) put incense on it(E) 2 and take it to Aaron’s sons the priests. The priest shall take a handful of the flour(F) and oil, together with all the incense,(G) and burn this as a memorial[a] portion(H) on the altar, a food offering,(I) an aroma pleasing to the Lord.(J) 3 The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons;(K) it is a most holy(L) part of the food offerings presented to the Lord.

4 “‘If you bring a grain offering baked in an oven,(M) it is to consist of the finest flour: either thick loaves made without yeast and with olive oil mixed in or thin loaves(N) made without yeast and brushed with olive oil.(O) 5 If your grain offering is prepared on a griddle,(P) it is to be made of the finest flour mixed with oil, and without yeast. 6 Crumble it and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. 7 If your grain offering is cooked in a pan,(Q) it is to be made of the finest flour and some olive oil. 8 Bring the grain offering made of these things to the Lord; present it to the priest, who shall take it to the altar. 9 He shall take out the memorial portion(R) from the grain offering and burn it on the altar as a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.(S) 10 The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons;(T) it is a most holy part of the food offerings presented to the Lord.(U)

11 “‘Every grain offering you bring to the Lord must be made without yeast,(V) for you are not to burn any yeast or honey in a food offering presented to the Lord. 12 You may bring them to the Lord as an offering of the firstfruits,(W) but they are not to be offered on the altar as a pleasing aroma. 13 Season all your grain offerings with salt.(X) Do not leave the salt of the covenant(Y) of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.

14 “‘If you bring a grain offering of firstfruits(Z) to the Lord, offer crushed heads of new grain roasted in the fire. 15 Put oil and incense(AA) on it; it is a grain offering. 16 The priest shall burn the memorial portion(AB) of the crushed grain and the oil, together with all the incense,(AC) as a food offering presented to the Lord.(AD)

It is an (J)offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the Lord. 10 And (K)what is left of the grain offering shall be Aaron’s and his sons’. It is most holy of the offerings to the Lord made by fire.

11 ‘No grain offering which you bring to the Lord shall be made with (L)leaven, for you shall burn no leaven nor any honey in any offering to the Lord made by fire. 12 (M)As for the offering of the firstfruits, you shall offer them to the Lord, but they shall not be burned on the altar for a sweet aroma. 13 And every offering of your grain offering (N)you shall season with salt; you shall not allow (O)the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking from your grain offering. (P)With all your offerings you shall offer salt.

14 ‘If you offer a grain offering of your firstfruits to the Lord, (Q)you shall offer for the grain offering of your firstfruits green heads of grain roasted on the fire, grain beaten from (R)full heads. 15 And (S)you shall put oil on it, and lay frankincense on it. It is a grain offering. 16 Then the priest shall burn (T)the memorial portion: part of its beaten grain and part of its oil, with all the frankincense, as an offering made by fire to the Lord.

Moses tells Israel's people what to do with gifts that are grain

2 A person may want to give grain as a gift to the Lord. He must make it into flour. He must put oil and incense on the flour. 2 He must take it to Aaron's sons, the priests. The priest will take some of the flour and oil and all the incense in his hand. He will burn them on the altar as a gift to the Lord. The smell of them while they are burning will give the Lord pleasure. 3 The flour that he did not burn is for the priests. It is very holy. That is because it is part of an offering to the Lord.

4 A person must not use yeast if he bakes his gift of grain. He must make cakes or biscuits with flour and oil. 5 He must not use yeast if he cooks his cake on a flat plate. He must make it with flour and oil. 6 He must break the cake into pieces. He must pour oil on it. It is a gift to God. 7 A person must use flour and oil to cook the cake in a pot. 8 He must give the cake to the priest. The priest will take it to the altar. 9 He will take a piece of it and he will burn it in the fire. It is a gift to the Lord. The smell of it while it is burning will give the Lord pleasure. 10 The part of the cake that he did not burn is for the priests. That is because it is most holy, part of a burnt offering to the Lord.

11 A person must not use yeast when he gives a gift of grain to the Lord. He must not give yeast or honey for the priests to burn as gifts to the Lord. 12 He can give them as the first part of his harvest. He must not burn them on the fire. He cannot use them to give the Lord pleasure. 13 A person must put salt in all his gifts of grain. Salt is a mark of God's promise to Israel's people.[a]

14 A person may want to give the first part of his harvest to the Lord. He must break the grains into pieces and he must cook them in a fire. 15 They are a gift, so he must put oil and incense on them. 16 The priest will burn a part of the grain with all the incense. It is a burnt offering to the Lord.
