¹⁷ ‘You ^(A)shall not hate your fellow countryman in your heart; you ^(B)may certainly rebuke your neighbor, but you are not to incur sin because of him.

⁹ The one who says that he is in the Light and yet ^(A)hates his ^(B)brother or sister is in the darkness until now.

¹¹ But the one who ^(A)hates his brother or sister is in the darkness and ^(B)walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has ^(C)blinded his eyes.

¹⁰ By this the ^(A)children of God and the ^(B)children of the devil are obvious: ^[a]anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who ^(C)does not love his ^(D)brother and sister.

¹² not as ^(A)Cain, who was of ^(B)the evil one and murdered his brother. And for what reason did he murder him? Because ^(C)his own deeds were evil, but his brother’s were righteous.

¹⁵ Everyone who ^(A)hates his brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that ^(B)no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
