Prayer for Restoration

5 Remember, ^(A)O Lord, what has come upon us;
Look, and behold ^(B)our reproach!
²^(C)Our inheritance has been turned over to aliens,
And our houses to foreigners.
³We have become orphans and waifs,
Our mothers are like ^(D)widows.

⁴We pay for the water we drink,
And our wood comes at a price.
⁵^(E)They pursue at our ^[a]heels;
We labor and have no rest.
⁶^(F)We have given our hand ^(G)to the Egyptians
And the ^(H)Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.

⁷^(I)Our fathers sinned and are no more,
But we bear their iniquities.
⁸Servants rule over us;
There is none to deliver us from their hand.
⁹We get our bread at the risk of our lives,
Because of the sword in the wilderness.

¹⁰Our skin is hot as an oven,
Because of the fever of famine.
¹¹They ^(J)ravished the women in Zion,
The maidens in the cities of Judah.
¹²Princes were hung up by their hands,
And elders were not respected.
¹³Young men ^(K)ground at the millstones;
Boys staggered under loads of wood.
¹⁴The elders have ceased gathering at the gate,
And the young men from their ^(L)music.

¹⁵The joy of our heart has ceased;
Our dance has turned into ^(M)mourning.
¹⁶^(N)The crown has fallen from our head.
Woe to us, for we have sinned!
¹⁷Because of this our heart is faint;
^(O)Because of these things our eyes grow dim;
¹⁸Because of Mount Zion which is ^(P)desolate,
With foxes walking about on it.

¹⁹You, O Lord, ^(Q)remain forever;
^(R)Your throne from generation to generation.
²⁰^(S)Why do You forget us forever,
And forsake us for so long a time?
²¹^(T)Turn us back to You, O Lord, and we will be ^[b]restored;
Renew our days as of old,
²²Unless You have utterly rejected us,
And are very angry with us!

Galatians 2:11-21

No Return to the Law

¹¹^(A)Now when ^[a]Peter had come to Antioch, I ^[b]withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; ¹²for before certain men came from James, ^(B)he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing ^[c]those who were of the circumcision. ¹³And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.

¹⁴But when I saw that they were not straightforward about ^(C)the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter ^(D)before them all, ^(E)“If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, ^[d]why do you compel Gentiles to live as ^[e]Jews? ¹⁵^(F)We who are Jews by nature, and not ^(G)sinners of the Gentiles, ¹⁶^(H)knowing that a man is not ^[f]justified by the works of the law but ^(I)by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not ^(J)by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.

¹⁷“But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found ^(K)sinners, is Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not! ¹⁸For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. ¹⁹For I ^(L)through the law ^(M)died to the law that I might ^(N)live to God. ²⁰I have been ^(O)crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh ^(P)I live by faith in the Son of God, ^(Q)who loved me and gave Himself for me. ²¹I do not set aside the grace of God; for ^(R)if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died ^[g]in vain.”

Justification by Faith^(A)

3 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you ^[a]that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed ^[b]among you as crucified? ²This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, ^(B)or by the hearing of faith? ³Are you so foolish? ^(C)Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by ^(D)the flesh? ⁴^(E)Have you suffered so ^[c]many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain?

⁵Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?— ⁶just as Abraham ^(F)“believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” ⁷Therefore know that only ^(G)those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. ⁸And ^(H)the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, ^(I)“In you all the nations shall be blessed.” ⁹So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.
