14 Then Judith said to them, “Listen to me, my friends. Take this head and hang it upon the parapet of your wall.^(A)

⁴⁷ Then the Jews^[a] seized the spoils and the plunder; they cut off Nicanor’s head and the right hand that he had so arrogantly stretched out and brought them and displayed them just outside Jerusalem.^(A)

¹² He took delight in establishing a gymnasium right under the citadel, and he induced the noblest of the young men to wear the Greek hat.^(A)

¹³ After consulting privately with the elders, he determined to march out and decide the matter by the help of God before the king’s army could enter Judea and get possession of the city.^(A)
