⁶ All the men of Shechem and all of ^[a]Beth-millo assembled together, and they went and made Abimelech king, by the oak (terebinth) of the pillar (memorial stone) at Shechem.

⁷ When they told Jotham, he went and stood at the top of Mount Gerizim and shouted to them, “Hear me, O men of Shechem, so that God may hear you. ^8 [b]Once the trees went forth to anoint a king over them, and they said to the olive tree, ‘Reign over us!’
