⁴¹ Then the men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were dismayed, ^(A)for they saw that disaster was close upon them.

⁹ And ^(D)the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, ^(E)will weep and wail over her ^(F)when they see the smoke of her burning. ^10 (G)They will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say,

¹⁵ Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave^[a] and free, ^(A)hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, ^16 (B)calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of ^(C)him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, ¹⁷ for ^(D)the great day of their wrath has come, and ^(E)who can stand?”

^12 (A)But these, like irrational animals, ^(B)creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction,

³ While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then ^(A)sudden destruction will come upon them ^(B)as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

²⁶ people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For ^(A)the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
