²And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt of old time beyond the River, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nahor: and they served other gods. ³And I took your father Abraham from beyond the River, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac. ⁴And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; and Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.

²Joshua said to all the people, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Long ago your ancestors, including Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor,^(A) lived beyond the Euphrates River and worshiped other gods.^(B) ³But I took your father Abraham from the land beyond the Euphrates and led him throughout Canaan^(C) and gave him many descendants.^(D) I gave him Isaac,^(E) ⁴and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau.^(F) I assigned the hill country of Seir^(G) to Esau, but Jacob and his family went down to Egypt.^(H)
