Joshua 14:8-10

⁸The other spies said things that made our people afraid, but I completely trusted the Lord God. ⁹^(A) The same day I came back, Moses told me, “Since you were faithful to the Lord God, I promise that the places where you went as a spy will belong to you and your descendants forever.”

¹⁰Joshua, it was 45 years ago that the Lord told Moses to make that promise, and now I am 85. Even though Israel has moved from place to place in the desert, the Lord has kept me alive all this time as he said he would.

⁸But ^(A)my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the Lord my God. ⁹And Moses swore on that day, saying, ^(B)‘Surely the land ^(C)on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’ ¹⁰And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, ^(D)just as he said, these ^(E)forty-five years since the time that the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day ^(F)eighty-five years old.

⁸but my fellow Israelites who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt in fear.^(A) I, however, followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.^(B) ⁹So on that day Moses swore to me, ‘The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance^(C) and that of your children^(D) forever, because you have followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.’^[a]

¹⁰“Now then, just as the Lord promised,^(E) he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved^(F) about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old!^(G)
