²¹ all the cities of the plateau, and all the kingdom of King Sihon of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon. Moses had killed him and the chiefs of Midian – Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba – the princes of Sihon who lived in the land.^{(A) 22} Along with those the Israelites put to death, they also killed the diviner, Balaam son of Beor, with the sword.

⁵ He said to the men of Succoth,^(A) ‘Please give some loaves of bread to the troops under my command,^[a] because they are exhausted, for I am pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.’

¹² Zebah and Zalmunna fled, and he pursued them. He captured these two kings of Midian and routed the entire army.

²⁶ The weight of the gold earrings he requested was twenty kilograms^[a] of gold, in addition to the crescent ornaments and ear pendants, the purple garments on the kings of Midian, and the chains on the necks of their camels.
