26 Jozua sprak daarna een vreselijke vervloeking uit over iedereen die Jericho zou proberen te herbouwen. Het leggen van het fundament zou het leven van zijn oudste zoon kosten en als hij de poorten overeind zou zetten, zou dat gaan ten koste van zijn jongste zoon.

“At the cost of his firstborn son
he will lay its foundations;
at the cost of his youngest
he will set up its gates.”(C)
