⁶     at the roots of the mountains.
I went down to the land
    whose bars closed upon me forever;
yet you brought up my life from the Pit,

³ O Lord, you brought up my soul from Sheol,
    restored me to life from among those gone down to the Pit.^[a](A)

¹⁰ For you do not give me up to Sheol
    or let your faithful one see the Pit.^(A)

¹⁷ Surely it was for my welfare
    that I had great bitterness,
but you have held back^[a] my life
    from the pit of destruction,
for you have cast all my sins

²⁵ Before the mountains had been shaped,
    before the hills, I was brought forth,^(A)
26 when he had not yet made earth and fields^[a]
    or the world’s first bits of soil.
²⁷ When he established the heavens, I was there;
    when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,^(B)
28 when he made firm the skies above,
    when he established the fountains of the deep,
²⁹ when he assigned to the sea its limit,
    so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the foundations of the earth,^(C)

¹⁰ The mountains saw you and writhed;
    a torrent of water swept by;
the deep gave forth its voice.
    The sun raised high its hands;^(A)

⁶ He stopped and shook the earth;
    he looked and made the nations tremble.
The eternal mountains were shattered;
    along his ancient pathways
    the everlasting hills sank low.^(A)
