24 Och männen voro utsända ifrån fariséerna.
25 Och de frågade honom och sade till honom: »Varför döper du då, om du icke är Messias, ej heller Elias, ej heller Profeten?»
26 Johannes svarade dem och sade: »Jag döper i vatten; men mitt ibland eder står en som I icke kännen:
27 han som kommer efter mig, vilkens skorem jag icke är värdig att upplösa.»
28 Detta skedde i Betania, på andra sidan Jordan, där Johannes döpte.
29 Dagen därefter såg han Jesus nalkas; då sade han: »Se, Guds Lamm, som borttager världens synd!
30 Om denne var det som jag sade: 'Efter mig kommer en man som är före mig; ty han var förr än jag.'
31 Och jag kände honom icke; men för att han skall bliva uppenbar för Israel, därför är jag kommen och döper i vatten.»
32 Och Johannes vittnade och sade: »Jag såg Anden såsom en duva sänka sig ned från himmelen; och han förblev över honom.
33 Och jag kände honom icke; men den som sände mig till att döpa i vatten, han sade till mig: 'Den över vilken du får se Anden sänka sig ned och förbliva, han är den som döper i helig ande.'
34 Och jag har sett det, och jag har vittnat att denne är Guds Son.»
35 Dagen därefter stod Johannes åter där med två av sina lärjungar.
36 När då Jesus kom gående, såg Johannes på honom och sade: »Se, Guds Lamm!»
37 Och de två lärjungarna hörde hans ord och följde Jesus.
38 Då vände sig Jesus om, och när han såg att de följde honom, frågade han dem: »Vad viljen I?» De svarade honom: »Rabbi» (det betyder mästare) »var bor du?»
39 Han sade till dem: »Kommen och sen.» Då gingo de med honom och sågo var han bodde; och de stannade den dagen hos honom. -- Detta skedde vid den tionde timmen.
40 En av de två som hade hört var Johannes sade, och som hade följt Jesus, var Andreas, Simon Petrus' broder.
41 Denne träffade först sin broder Simon och sade till honom: »Vi hava funnit Messias» (det betyder detsamma som Kristus).
42 Och han förde honom till Jesus. Då såg Jesus på honom och sade: »Du är Simon, Johannes' son; du skall heta Cefas» (det betyder detsamma som Petrus).
43 Dagen därefter ville Jesus gå därifrån till Galileen, och han träffade då Filippus. Och Jesus sade till honom: »Följ mig.»
44 Och Filippus var från Betsaida, Andreas' och Petrus' stad.
45 Filippus träffade Natanael och sade till honom: »Den som Moses har skrivit om i lagen och som profeterna hava skrivit om, honom hava vi funnit, Jesus, Josefs son, från Nasaret.»
46 Natanael sade till honom: »Kan något gott komma från Nasaret?» Filippus svarade honom: »Kom och se.»
47 När nu Jesus såg Natanael nalkas, sade han om honom: »Se, denne är en rätt israelit, i vilken icke finnes något svek.»
48 Natanael frågade honom: »Huru kunna du känna mig?» Jesus svarade och sade till honom: »Förrän Filippus kallade dig, såg jag dig, där du var under fikonträdet.»
49 Natanael svarade honom: »Rabbi, du är Guds Son, du är Israels konung.»
50 Jesus svarade och sade till honom: »Eftersom jag sade dig att jag såg dig under fikonträdet, tror du? Större ting än vad detta är skall du få se.»
51 Därefter sade han till honom: »Sannerligen, sannerligen säger jag eder: I skolen få se himmelen öppen och Guds änglar fara upp och fara ned över Människosonen.» Faderns sköte, osv. grekiska.

24 Några fariseer hade också sänts ut, 25 och de frågade honom: "Varför döper du, om du inte är Messias och inte heller Elia eller Profeten?" 26 Johannes svarade dem: "Jag döper i vatten. Men mitt ibland er står en som ni inte känner, 27 han som kommer efter mig. Jag är inte värd att knyta upp remmen på hans sandaler." 28 Detta hände i Betania på andra sidan Jordan, där Johannes döpte.
29 Nästa dag såg han Jesus komma, och han sade: "Se Guds lamm,[a] som tar bort världens synd. 30 Det var om honom jag sade: Efter mig kommer en man som är före mig, ty han var före mig. 31 Och jag kände honom inte. Men för att han skulle uppenbaras för Israel har jag kommit och döper i vatten."
32 Johannes vittnade och sade: "Jag såg Anden komma ner som en duva från himlen och bli kvar över honom. 33 Jag kände honom inte, men han som sände mig att döpa i vatten sade till mig: Den som du ser Anden komma ner och bli kvar över, han är den som döper i den helige Ande. 34 Och jag har sett det och har vittnat att han är Guds Son."
Jesu första lärjungar
35 Nästa dag stod Johannes där igen med två av sina lärjungar. 36 När han såg Jesus komma sade han: "Se Guds lamm!" 37 De båda lärjungarna hörde vad han sade och följde Jesus. 38 Jesus vände sig om, och när han såg att de följde honom, frågade han dem vad de ville. De svarade: "Rabbi" - det betyder lärare - "var bor du?" 39 Han sade till dem: "Kom och se!" Då gick de med honom och såg var han bodde och stannade hos honom den dagen. Det var omkring tionde timmen.
40 Andreas, Simon Petrus bror, var en av de två som hade hört vad Johannes sade och som hade följt Jesus. 41 Han fann först sin bror Simon och sade till honom: "Vi har funnit Messias" - det betyder Kristus. 42 Och han förde honom till Jesus. Jesus såg på honom och sade: "Du är Simon, Johannes son, du skall heta Kefas"[b] - det betyder Petrus.
43 Nästa dag beslöt Jesus att gå därifrån till Galileen. Han fann då Filippus och sade till honom: "Följ mig!" 44 Filippus var från Betsaida, från samma stad som Andreas och Petrus. 45 Filippus fann Natanael och sade till honom: "Den som Mose har skrivit om i lagen och som profeterna har skrivit om, honom har vi funnit, Jesus, Josefs son, från Nasaret." 46 Natanael sade till honom: "Kan något gott komma från Nasaret?" Filippus svarade: "Kom och se!" 47 När Jesus såg Natanael komma sade han om honom: "Se, han är en verklig israelit. I honom finns inget svek." 48 Natanael frågade honom: "Hur kan du känna mig?" Jesus svarade: "Innan Filippus kallade på dig, såg jag dig där du var under fikonträdet." 49 Natanael svarade: "Rabbi, du är Guds Son, du är Israels konung." 50 Jesus svarade honom: "Därför att jag sade att jag såg dig under fikonträdet, tror du. Det som är större än detta skall du få se." 51 Sedan sade han till honom: "Amen, amen[c] säger jag er: Ni kommer att få se himlen öppen och Guds änglar stiga upp och stiga ner över Människosonen."

25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

The Lamb of God(E)
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! (F)The Lamb of God (G)who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who [c]is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ 31 I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, (H)therefore I came baptizing with water.”
32 (I)And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. 33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, (J)this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the (K)Son of God.”
The First Disciples
35 Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. 36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, (L)“Behold the Lamb of God!”
37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they (M)followed Jesus. 38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?”
They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are You staying?”
39 He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).
40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was (N)Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the [d]Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, “You are Simon the son of [e]Jonah. (O)You shall be called Cephas” (which is translated, [f]A Stone).
Philip and Nathanael
43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found (P)Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” 44 Now (Q)Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found (R)Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom (S)Moses in the law, and also the (T)prophets, wrote—Jesus (U)of Nazareth, the (V)son of Joseph.”
46 And Nathanael said to him, (W)“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”
Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, (X)an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”
48 Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, (Y)You are the Son of God! You are (Z)the King of Israel!”
50 Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51 And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, (AA)hereafter[g] you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”
