1 I början fanns Ordet^[a]. Ordet fanns hos Gud, och Ordet var Gud.

1:1 Ordet, logos på grekiska, varifrån t.ex. vårt ord ”logik” kommer, kunde för grekerna betyda ”tanken, den princip som styr universum”. I modernt språkbruk skulle man också kunna förknippa det med ”information”. I Nya testamentet syftar det på Kristus som Guds verksamma ord alltifrån skapelsen.
