²² His parents said this because they ^(A)were afraid of the ^[a]Jews; for the Jews ^(B)had already reached the decision that if anyone confessed Him to be ^[b]Christ, ^(C)he was to be excommunicated from the synagogue.

⁴² Nevertheless ^(A)many, even of ^(B)the rulers, believed in Him, but ^(C)because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, so that they would not be ^(D)excommunicated from the synagogue;

³⁸ Now ^(A)after these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a ^(B)secret one for ^(C)fear of the ^[a]Jews, requested of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body.

¹⁹ Now when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were ^[a]shut where the disciples were together due to ^(A)fear of the ^[b]Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and *said to them, “^(B)Peace be to you.”
