⁶ Jesus told them, “My time^(A) has not yet arrived, but your time is always at hand. ⁷ The world cannot hate^(B) you, but it does hate Me because I testify about it—that its deeds are evil. ⁸ Go up to the festival yourselves. I’m not going up to the festival yet,^[a] because My time has not yet fully come.”

⁸ Then He said, “Watch out that you are not deceived.^(A) For many will come in My name,^(B) saying, ‘I am He,’^(C) and, ‘The time is near.’ Don’t follow them.^(D)

⁶ So when they had come together, they asked Him, “Lord, are You restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?”

⁷ He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by His own authority.^{(A) 8} But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends^[a] of the earth.”^(B)

The Ascension

⁹ After He had said this, He was taken up as they were watching, and a cloud took Him out of their sight. ¹⁰ While He was going, they were gazing into heaven, and suddenly two men in white clothes stood by them.^{(C) 11} They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come in the same way that you have seen Him going into heaven.”^(D)

³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away,^(A) but My words will never pass away.^(B)

No One Knows the Day or Hour

³⁶ “Now concerning that day and hour no one knows—neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son^[a] —except the Father only.^{(C) 37} As the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. ³⁸ For in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah boarded the ark.^{(D) 39} They didn’t know^[b] until the flood came and swept them all away. So this is the way the coming of the Son of Man will be: ⁴⁰ Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and one left. ⁴¹ Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and one left.^{(E) 42} Therefore be alert, since you don’t know what day^[c] your Lord is coming.^{(F) 43} But know this: If the homeowner had known what time^[d] the thief was coming, he would have stayed alert and not let his house be broken into.^{(G) 44} This is why you also must be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.^(H)

Faithful Service to the Messiah

⁴⁵ “Who then is a faithful and sensible slave,^(I) whom his master has put in charge of his household, to give them food at the proper time?^{(J) 46} That slave whose master finds him working^(K) when he comes will be rewarded.
