³¹ Yet many in the crowd believed in him and were saying, “When the Messiah^[a] comes, will he do more signs than this man has done?”^[b](A)

⁴² Nevertheless many, even of the authorities, believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue,^(A)

²³ All the crowds were amazed and were saying, “Can this be the Son of David?”^(A)

¹³ Even Simon himself believed. After being baptized, he stayed constantly with Philip and was amazed when he saw the signs and great miracles that took place.^(A)

The Plot to Kill Jesus

⁴⁵ Many of the Jews, therefore, who had come with Mary and had seen what Jesus did believed in him.^(A)

⁴¹ Many came to him, and they were saying, “John performed no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.”^{(A) 42} And many believed in him there.^(B)

¹⁶ Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not observe the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner perform such signs?” And they were divided.^(A)

³⁰ As he was saying these things, many believed in him.

True Disciples

³¹ Then Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, ³² and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”^(A)

²⁶ For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.
