⁸ (His disciples had gone to the city to buy food.)

³⁹ Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I have ever done.”^(A)

⁵ So he came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.^(A)

¹³ But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all these people.”^(A)

⁵ When he looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread for these people to eat?”^{(A) 6} He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he was going to do. ⁷ Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little.”
